The Very Reverend Archimandrite Fr. Amphilochios Tsoukos, of the Holy Elder of Patmos Amphilochios Makres’ spiritual stature, Abbot of the Sacred Monastery Taxiarches Michael, Tharri, Rhodes, with the former U.S. Congressman from California Mr. Michael Huffington and the Abbess of our Sacred Monastery, Nun Diodora.

"Being affected by the existence in the area of the tomb of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, the surroundings of this Sacred Monastery of the Holy Cross predispose the pilgrim to believe in its distinctiveness as a center of missionary monasticism, especially when the leaders of these concerted efforts and labors are the ardent and tireless Elder, its Founder, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Dionysios, and his dedicated co-traveller and assistant the Reverend Eldress and Abbess, Nun Diodora.

With all my appreciation and love, and with warm thanks and blessings in the Lord.

Archimandrite Amphilochios Tsoukos
Abbot of the Sacred Monastery Taxiarches Michael,
Tharri, Rhodes.

Therefore in these programs for the year 2000, may you acquire Monasteries; but such Monasteries as St. Basil the Great would have them be. St. Serapion, Bishop of Thmouis, says: "Joy to those cities and villages which, a little farther on, nearby outside, have a Monastery, with persons who humbly supplicate and pray, who don’t judge others but rather judge themselves, and stay there in silence and petition, who are burning like incense in the desert for the whole world." The Monasticism which doesn’t come to terms with and minister to the Church, deteriorates into something sterile and useless, and is cast out like the salt which has lost its savour. Because, in reality, Monasticism, departure, means that I go out in order to grant the others the comfort of being with God.

But on the other hand the Church which slays, which kills, which aborts Monasticism, finally deviates into a killer of fathers, mothers and children – into an unbridled Protestantism which in no way can be brought into check. While the Church remains apophatic, along with Her Theology and Her content and Her experience.
