“American Women of Greece” (AWOG).
April 26th, 2001, Ledra-Marriott Hotel, Athens.
“…When we’re perfect, we need no exterior confirmation at all. Humility is perfect, exactly because it doesn’t need anybody to affirm it. It is. And when we are, what God wants us to be and gives us the possibility to be, we become free from every need for any kind of external recognition…”

How different and how worldly is the opinion of many people who think that monks are a kind of aristocracy, and that only aristocrats can become monks. But it is entirely otherwise. A person can receive the Great Schema from God, when he has precisely this inner sense of inferiority. And it was this which Father Dionysios felt within his aristocratic nature, within his tall stature, and within his struggles, and it seems for this reason that God has blessed him. As imposing as his gaze and his body appear to be, so lowly was his life and his heart before God, and this is why God bowed down and helped him and gave him the grace of the Great Schema.
