Second Homily on the Bestowal of the Great Schema upon
Hieromonk Dionysius of Simonopetra
by His Elder, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Aemilianos,
Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra, Mt. Athos.

† Feast of Saint Dionysios the Areopagite, 3 Oct. 1977

Today, we celebrated the tonsure of one of the very first men who loved Meteora, who ascended its heights, and who continued their lives upon this Rock of Saint Simon.

For me, this event is not an ordinary occurrence, but something which floods my heart with emotion, and tells me a great many things that are impossible for me to express. There are some things which a person can only live, and when he tries to express them in words, he realizes that all the beauty that he had in his soul is thereby lost. At such times, it is better to keep silent.
