Orthodox Ikonography
Orthodox Iconography is the visual expression of Church doctrine. Therefore ikons are not secular pictures with a religious topic, but art which, by its obedience to the canons of the faith, is an expression in lines and color of the teachings which the scriptures, the writings of the fathers, and other verbal expressions, express in words.
Several of the sites listed below contain links to iconography which is for sale. The fact that any site is listed here does not constitute an endorsement by Holy Cross Monastery. If anyone wishes advice about purchasing icons, or about the possibility of having icons painted, they should contact the monastery directly.

from the classical to Medieval periods at Dakota State University. Most examples are from
the west.

Iconography of Gregory Kroug The outgrowth of a project to record the extant iconography
of Fr. Gregory Kroug -- an associate of Leonid Ouspensky -- who painted in several places
in several media -- i.e. live fesco, egg tempera. Much of his work was in small,
makeshift, poorly maintained buildings adapted for use as chapels. Text by Fr. Andrew
Tregubov.

Ikons of St. Nicholas, St. Juliana (Ulyana), St. Barbara, The Descent into Hell
(Anastasis), The Dormition (Assumption) and the Kiev Princes (this is a "cutout"
from a larger Ikon. Could be SS Boris & Gleb, but they seem to be wearing episcopal
vestments). Deisis): there are three ikons here (possibly a triptych) with St. John the Forerunner in the middle flanked by SS Peter & Paul. Feast day Ikons (various): The Virgin of Vladimir, St. Paul and the Ascension (two separate Ikons on one panel).
