Under the Orthodox section there is a Chaldean (Nestorian?) rite which, evidently has been tampered with during the course of translation; the rite of St. Germain used by the Kovalesky group in Paris center of the Orthodox Church of France (formerly under the ROCOR, Romanian Patriarchate, etc.) the Coptic (non-Chalcedonian) rite of St. Basil; the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom more or less according to mediterranean usage; the Gul Mass used by the Old Catholics of Utrecht; the Liturgy of St. Tikhon (a makeover of the Communion service from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer for Orthodox usage in the Western rite of the Antiochian Archdiocese); the Syrian (Nestorian?) rite; and two versions of "Evening Prayer" according to the usage of someone called the East Syrian -- Antiochian (Chaldean) Orthodox Catholic Church of America -- no relationship to either the Chalcedonian Church of Antioch or the Jacobite Church of Antioch. On the other hand the Liturgy of St. James is included in the "Other Liturgies" section.

The Western Rite
The Orthodox Church has always had and has always used multiple rites. Rites generally in use today include those of St. John Chrysosom, St. Basil the Great, and Pre-sanctified gifts (or St. Greagory). Because of this natural diversity, the Orthodox Church was, during the first decade of this century, asked to consider the possibility of a Western Rite which could be used outside of those indigenously Orthodox Countries in which the Byzantine or eastern rite was the norm. The result has been a far reaching discussion about what such a western rite actually is, when its use would be justified and by whom. There has been, under a variety of jurisdictions, a western rite in use in France since the 1920's, and since the mid 1970's the western rite vicariate in the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America has been particularly active. Thus the discussion is no longer in the realm of the theoretical, but is the daily reality of many Orthodox Christians in Europe and North America. The links below deal with this phenomenon
