His Eminence the Metropolitan of Thebes & Levadeia Jerome (lay name John Liapis), was born in 1938 at Oenophyta, Boeotia, Greece. He was ordained Deacon and Priest in 1967. He served as Chancellor of the Sacred Diocese of Thebes & Levadeias from 1967 to 1978, and as Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece from 1978 to 1981. He was elected Metropolitan of Thebes & Levadiea in 1981.
